Vintage Rubens Lady Head Vase #494 from the 1950’s. This red-lipped beauty is wearing a teal dress with hat, and gloves, as well as pearl earrings and necklace. Very good condition, no chips or cracks. Slight wear to the gold accent on front rim of hat. Measures 4.5” tall x 3.5” wide x 3” deep

This is a lady head vase made in 1959 by Rubens. #501. With original arrangement. Meet Mia Johansson. This spectacular head vase reminds me of my 3rd grade teacher who wore her her fashioned in this style, every-single-day. And, we all loved her. What a find. Mia has her blonde hair intricately twisted about her head. She has a serene gaze with downcast eyes; just lovely. The original pearl necklace and earrings complement her white dress with gold-gilt roses. Let’s talk about that floral arrangement! That floral designer was way ahead of her time. So modern and novel. Comprised of real pine cones, seed pods, gold “silk” leaves. Interspersed with green (plastic) slender fronds. (Inserted into florist’s foam— early prototype). All capped off with red tulle. The tulle sweeps over Mia’s face when in place; so dramatic. Condition is near-perfect. I detect one black mark under her left eye. So minor. (See photo of her face, only). I could find no other issues. The bottom has wear marks and the interior has glue in spots. She measures 6-1/2” tall. 8-1/2” including the arrangement. A sizable presence. Seldom does a ladyhead vase of this size, this condition and with original arrangement come to market. Mia Johansson would be a dramatic addition to your collection. She is just striking.Side note: the original arrangement is a very snug fit. I might first try to gently carve away some florist foam rather than forcing it back in.

This is a vintage lady head vase set of THREE vases.  I call them the sisters, all three are the same mold and style but with different color painted dresses.  You will not find a more lovely set of these Rubens 4129 vases.  They look as if they are hot off the production line.  The gal in the green dress has a very slight paint rub on her nose, other than that, the set is in amazing beautiful condition.  I bought this set about 20 years ago from a girl that had uncovered a warehouse full of an old flower shops vases.  This set is especially hard to find in this excellent condition because the Rubens head vases were cold painted (paint applied after fired).  Do not wash a Rubens lady vases, the paint will surely come off.    Bottoms stamped 4129 with a red JAPAN Rubens sticker and each measures 5 1/2 inches tall.
